LaOx was born from a dream of building a Chicano–Southern musical vessel, one that carries the shared rhythms, histories, and soul of two cultures. The name reflects that journey: “LA” for Louisiana and “OX” for Oxnard, California, where the band took root. The project was conceived by Las Cafeteras co-founder and former drummer Jose Cano alongside Baton Rouge native, historian, educator, and trumpet virtuoso Jeremy Thomas.
The band’s sound is an experimental combination of the latin, afrobeat, rock and pop grooves that shaped Chicano life in Southern California infused with the unmistakable spirit of Louisiana, creating something both deeply rooted and boldly new.
